Recalibrating with Psalm 119: Finding True North in God’s Word

In a world of constant change and shifting standards, Psalm 119 stands as a masterpiece of spiritual recalibration. This remarkable psalm—the longest chapter in the Bible—is far more than a lengthy meditation on Scripture. It’s an intricate journey of the heart, designed to realign our lives with God’s truth. There is nothing in the human experience that God’s Word does not touch on and speak to.

Through 176 verses arranged in 22 8-verse stanzas (each stanza beginning with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet in order), Psalm 119 guides us through every season and challenge of our spiritual lives. Infact, verse 105 proclaims, “Your Word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”

Like a spiritual compass, this Psalm helps us find our bearings when we’re:

  • Seeking joy in a troubled world
  • Needing wisdom for difficult decisions
  • Facing opposition or persecution
  • Wrestling with doubt or discouragement
  • Longing for a sense of deeper purpose
  • Wanting to grow in faith

This 22-day journey through Psalm 119 invites you to more than just reading—it calls you to recalibration. Each day explores one eight-verse stanza, unpacking the rich meanings of the Hebrew text and connecting ancient truth to contemporary life. Through careful study, personal reflection, and practical application, we’ll discover how God’s Word can become:

  • Our source of unshakeable joy
  • Our guide in confusing times
  • Our comfort in suffering
  • Our wisdom for daily decisions
  • Our strength in weakness
  • Our hope in darkness

Whether you’re new to Bible study or have walked with God for many years, Psalm 119 offers fresh insights and deeper understanding for each of us. Its careful structure teaches us while its passionate devotion inspires us. As we journey together through these verses, we’ll learn not just to read God’s Word, but to love it, live it, and let it transform us.

Join me for this 22-day exploration of Scripture’s longest longest psalm – a systematic exploration of how God’s Word guides, transforms, and sustains our lives. Through careful study and thoughtful reflection, we’ll discover how these ancient truths provide enduring wisdom for contemporary challenges.

God has granted me the honor of being adopted as one of His sons and of serving His people as a Bible teacher and Biblical counselor. My primary area of counseling expertise is often referred to as "high-end" counseling: survivors of trauma and abuse, especially childhood sexual abuse, church abuse, narcissistic abuse, domestic oppression, sex-trafficking, kidnapping, and sole-survivor counseling. As a survivor myself, God uses my own healing journey to help bring hope and healing to others (a la 2 Cor. 1:3-4). Abuse and oppression are NEVER okay with God! When it comes to oppression and abuse, there is no "Switzerland," no neutral territory - you either side with the oppressor or with the oppressed; there is no middle ground.
